Throw back Thursday!!!!

Want to see a picture of me in high school...Let's all jump in the time machine and take a peek!!!

Photo

There I am with my sweet bandanna and my well worn Anything Goes t-shirt! This isn't how I dress everyday....OK the bandanna and face paint weren't part of the wardrobe, but I wore that shirt out!!!!

This picture was taken after the Senior members of I.T.S. (international thespian society) had kidnapped the pledges on the last day of pledge week!! This was so much fun! We were at Village Inn before school and the pledges had to wear what we dressed them in all day!!!!

I miss high school sometimes ( yeah I'm one of the weirdos that liked high school!!!)

Anyway, hope you found this interesting...or at least entertaining!!!!

Riddle me this...

If you sneeze and I say bless you, the polite thing to do is:

A) ignore my "bless you"
B) say thank you
C) do a curtsy

If you said B you passed this little quiz!

My question comes from something that happened today... At school I said "bless you" after a guy sneezed at school and he just ignored me!! I know that he herd me, so I thought that maybe saying bless you is out of fashion. I don't care what the fashion is I will continue to say bless you because it's the polite thing to do!!

Other than that slight hiccup today was a great day! Microbiology is interesting, and I love the labs! I thought that I would be a nervous nelly about working with bacteria but I make sure that I follow the procedures and everything is fine!

Here's hoping you had a day of discoveries and "bless yous"

Be who you are....

Dr. Seuss

Two very important men have a connection to this date, September 24th.

They are men who gave children everywhere amazing gifts...laughter, love, and learning. These men were innovators and dreamers!

These men were Dr. Seuss and Jim Henson.

Kermit and Jim Henson
When I was younger, I wanted to be a puppeteer.I did a report about this occupation in middle school and read countless books on the subject. I would put socks on my hands and practice my technique. I had (have) countless voices that I would (still) practice working to find the perfect character to add to the Henson world...And then some silly grown-up came along and told me the faults with my dream. They said that it wasn't a practical job, that I wouldn't make any money, and that my dream would always be just that... A dream.

I think that if I could get in my time machine and go talk to my younger self I would tell her exactly what one of these great men might have said, be who you are and dream your dreams. There is plenty of time to grow up and have adult worries, but you are only a child for a short time. There are only so many days of make believe and wonder, only so many summers, and there is only a small window in your life when you can believe that anything is possible (without people telling you it isn't). There isn't anything that you can't accomplish if you are willing to work hard for it and allow yourself to shine!!! Explore and discover...learn a little and grow a little everyday.

Now that I think about it I need to remind myself of this not just way back when, but everyday!
Everyday I have the chance to learn and grow and discover about myself and the world around me!

I am privileged enough to work with children and teach them these lessons as well, I never want to be remembered as the "grown-up" who squashed someones dream, But instead as a "big kid" who told the smaller ones around her that you can dream, you can create, you are someone special and that is SO AMAZING!!!!!

"Be who you are and say what you feel, those who mind don't matter, those who matter don't mind"- Dr. Seuss

Is the book better?

Last night I finally watched The Hunger Games! I had been wanting to see it, but part of me didn't want to ruin the world I had created in my head from reading the books. Don't get me wrong, the movie was good...just not as good as the book.

Yeah, I know that sounds snooty, and I try to keep comments like, "that's not what happened in the book" or"They left out the part where..." to myself for the sake of others around me...but last night I said out loud, "It looked better in the book", in reference to when Katness and Peeta make there grand entrance in the parade of tributes. (Also, Ryan thought that everyone was saying Peter with a funny accent instead of Peeta...I told him it's Peeta like bread LOL!!!)

I think the best way to approach a movie based on a book or, a series of books, is to think of the film as independent from the books. Sure, they have basically the same plot and cast of characters but, there is no way the film will be the same as the book. It can't be, there is just something that changes when you have the story given to you in a film, as apposed to working for it in a book.

What I mean by that is in a movie someone usually a writer or director or who-ever decides what is the most important thing you should be seeing, you can only take away what is visually in front of you. You don't have to imagine the scenery, or what the leading lady looks like, or an epic battle between the hero and the villain because it is "given" to you.

You might be thinking well, in the book you are given descriptions of all of these things by the author and that's the same thing....except it isn't. Think of it like a painting, the author is giving you the materials to create a painting by giving descriptions of things, and in site into the characters, but ultimately what the painting looks like is up to the reader in how they interpret these descriptions.

So, if you ever ask me if the movie is as good as the book I will probably tell you that it isn't if you are comparing it to the book alone. But if you look at the movie as a separate piece of entertainment/art then I might say yes...depending on if I actually believe it to be good...

Well, I guess I'll get off my soap box now!!!

May the odds be ever in your favor,
Kaitlin

P.S. If you haven't read these books yet, I highly recommend them!!!!

Saturday randomness

Well it's Saturday and you know what that means, time for five random things!!!
So here they are in no particular order:

1. I had BBQ nachos from Hawg Wild BBQ in Aurora for dinner tonight and they were AMAZING!!! I've had them before, but they were extra yummy tonight! I'm pretty sure they are the best BBQ nachos on the planet!

2. Took Sheldon to the pet store today to get him some new toys as he has destroyed several lately and needed new ones. I didn't realize how crazy Petsmart is on Saturday! There were people and dogs everywhere, talk about sensory overload!!!

3. Here is a picture of Ryan wearing what looks like the sorting hat from Harry Potter...wonder what house he will be in....

4. I don't know how to make Blogger add pictures where I want them instead of just at the bottom of the post so I guess I need to work on that!!! Lol!

5. The newest episode of Doctor Who is recording as we speak...(as I type?) and I can't decide if I should watch it now or wait until later in the week when I might need a pick-me-up...decisions, decisions!!!

That about raps it up for this round of randomness!! Hope that you could find some awesome randomness in your day too!!!

Sorting hats and hugs,
Kaitlin

Get it together!!!!

Ok, I've been M.I.A. for awhile and a lot of things have happened since the last time I posted I got married, school and work started back up so things are a flurry of activity!!!!
In all of the excitement I've gain a husband and unfortunately a few extra lbs.
I decided that I am hitting the gym and eating healthy... There are a ton of reasons I want to do this but here are my top 5:
1- to be healthy
2- so I can be the best wife (and some day mommy) that I can be!
3- to prove to myself that I can do it
4- to feel good
And 5- to be the best me I can be, because I'm worth it!!!

I am going to try and keep a log of my journey so that when I reach my goal I can look back at where I started!!!

Blessings not stressings...

I am stressed out!!!!
Instead of feeling stressed I should remember I'm blessed...
Blessed with good health, a man whom I love and adore who loves me too, my sister from another mister, my adorable new niece, a roof over my head, food to eat, a puppy who is silly as all get out... And soo many more blessings, and things to feel blessed about instead of stressed about!

I just need to try to remember to think of these things when I'm feeling stressed!!!!

Blessed not stressed,

One week!!!

Today marks the one week point to my wedding, so I've been M.I.A. on my blog!!!
Today Ryan and I got a lot of the last minute things on our list accomplished, things that for some reason or another can't be done until the week before the wedding...also things that happened to slip thru the cracks in the previous months of planning we have had!
I must say that there isn't another person I would have spent the whole day with, we had so much fun just being together and working together. This point in the wedding planning process can be stressful, but whenever I found myself becoming overwhelmed with choices or misunderstanding what Ryan was trying to tell me we didn't fight or argue...we just took a moment to breath or Ryan explained it another way.
I love that about Ryan, he always helps me when things get too stressful for me by making me laugh, or coming at a problem another way until i understand it, instead of getting aggravated or angry!
I know that we are going to have a great wedding, but even better than that, we are going to have a great marriage and that is what is truly important!!!
I'm so blessed!!!!!!

Bubbles and blessings,

5 random things

It's been a while since my last blog but life has been C-to the-RAZY!!!! So I thought I'd ease back into it with some randomness!!!!

1. I found a random pineapple top in the parking lot at Best Buy!!! It made me wonder how it got there, was it part of an employee's lunch? I guess I is just one of life's mysteries!!!

2. I have named the giant hanging fern on the porch... His name is Cousin It he is very large and dangly! Ryan said it was weird to name the fern but we'll see who's weird, won't we Cousin it?

3. Hot and spicy Cheez-it's smell...well hot and spicy, and it kind of hurts my nostrils.

4. Sheldon's ears have popped up! It's bitter-sweet because he's not my floppy eared little pup anymore. Now he's my pointy eared little pup and he's still pretty cute!

5. Glasses w/ staches...amazing!!!!!!

Well that's it for now hope that your day has been incredible and if not tomorrow will be!!!!

Random things

I like lists so here are 5 random things from my Sunday...

1. I had trouble at two different gas stations trying to get gas, one was an error with the pump the other was operator error.

2. Waiting to do laundry until Sunday evening isn't very smart... Especially if you really need what you are washing to be dry for Monday morning and you worry you may not get it in the dryer before you fall asleep!!!

3. Queso Is delicious, but be wear its mighty power to make you eat it until you fear your stomach might burst!!!!

4. Parking on campus is AMAZING on a Sunday afternoon, I parked right next to the building I was actually going in!! That just doesn't happen during the week!

5. Giant flys do not like being swatted at with tiny brooms, maybe he was insulted by the size of my weapon of choice or maybe he was just mad I was trying to swat him, either way he was not a happy gigantic fly!!!

Well that's my 5 random things stay tuned tomorrow for an extra special post!!!

Love and randomness,

Stethoscope blues

Today I got to use a stethoscope in my anatomy and physiology lab, It proved to be more difficult than I had anticipated...
The lab procedure said that we were going to find our lab partners heartbeat but I couldn't find my lab partners heart beat, she is already an LPN and she told me that it can be tricky at first but I should try and find my own heartbeat... I COULDN'T FIND IT!!!!
I was so upset, I started to question if the nursing is a field I could actually be in if I couldn't even find a heartbeat!!!
I stayed after almost everyone else had gone and asked another student if I could practice finding her heartbeat.
I still couldn't find it!!!
I was getting frustrated when another classmate asked if the stethoscope was on, I thought she was pulling my leg but she showed me that if you twist the end it makes the sound louder!!!!
I was sooo excited that I could hear the "lub-dub" of her heart and it was so nice of her to take a few seconds to show me how to use the stethoscope!! Not only did I hear her heart, but I saw it because she took the time to teach me something.
It is amazing how helpful you can be and it takes hardly any time at all!!!
I'm going to try and remember that when I think I'm too busy in my day, to stop and take a moment to explain something, or help someone else out!!!

Love and "lub-dub",
Kaitlin

Tutu to you!!!

I've always loved dressing up,when I was a kid I would dress up and some of my favorite memories were at my grandma's house playing in her old high heels and costume jewelry.
Even today I still enjoy a good costume or getting gussied up for a night on the town...
So imagine how sad I was to find that my little sweeties at the school have no dress up clothes!!!!
I decided to make tutus for my girlies, and one of the awesome moms donated tool, elastic, tread, and needles...everything I need to make my tutus!!!! I was shocked at all she gave, without the blessing of her generous gift I wouldn't have been able to make these little skirts!
I did get one tutu made today, but I didn't get a picture of it...I'll post Picts when I get some more tutus turned out!! :-)
I'm so excited that I get the opportunity to encourage imaginative thinking and creative play!!!

love and fluffy tutus,

Don't call it a come back

Hello there friends!

It has been a bit since I've posted, life in Redhead land has been BUSY!!! Between wedding plans, studying, and trying to get into a nursing program I've been one busy gal!!
But I got a lovely message from my aunt telling me she missed seeing my blog, that was very sweet and inspiring!
So I've decided that I'm going to try to post something everyday or at least every other day. I realize that not every post can have earth shattering wisdom but they don't have to... Sometimes just being able to get it out there is good enough.

Also, I realize that my project 365 is a little behind so of you like, you can check them out on my Facebook page

Love and busy bees,

I made this!!

Look what I made for the nursery!! We always seem to be loosing pens, now we will be able to find them easily and hopefully it will detour pen thievery, accidental or other wise!! ( I may or may not have acquired a pen or two this way, oops! )
This project was super easy and quick, i think it took me all of 10 minutes to make these pretties!!!
The supplies you need are: pens, fake flowers of your choice ( I liked these daisies because they are bright and cheerful!), floral tape, and a container to "display" them in!
This would be great if you want to brighten up your desk at work, or just keep your pens from disappearing!!! Happy crafting!

Love and crazy daisies,
Kaitlin

I mustache you a question

As some of you may know I'm slightly obsessed with mustaches, I'm not sure why but I love all things mustachio!!!!
I saw these while I was running errands today I think they may have been calling to me saying, "take us home!! We will make enjoying a cold beverage so much more fun and sophisticated!!!"
but alas, I could not make them apart of my kitchen family today...but I have a special spot ready for them just in case they come to live with me in the near future!!!

Love and mustaches,
Kaitlin

Piggies!!!!!!

Well, here is the picture for today it's of my feet...
yeah, I know usually I wouldn't take pictures of my feet BUT after being forced to take my shoes and socks off in my lab yesterday I felt I needed to pretty up my feet!!
I had to put popcorn kernels in my socks and I was soo embarrassed when I took my sock off and saw my sad, neglected toes!!!!
Action was taken this evening to pep up my piggies!!!!
A part of me felt guilty for painting my toes instead of studying, but I realize that sometimes I need to take a few minuets to pamper myself!! I work hard and sometimes something as simple and silly as painting my nails makes me feel good!!!
So to the part of your being that might be feeling guilty for a little "me-time" remind that little part of you that YOU ARE WORTH IT!!!!!!!!
You can only be your best if you are happy, and healthy!! (hopefully I can put this advice into practice myself lol)

Love and pink piggies!!!!

Extra postage required

Today my mom helped me address save the dates...and when I say she helped me I mean she addressed them while I watched and chatted with her about different things...I started out helping but her handwriting was sooo much nicer than mine, and it took me 3 tries just to address just one!!!
It didn't take very long, I got another thing checked off my wedding to-do list, and I got to spend some time with my mom! It was a good day!

Love and postcards,
Kaitlin

Big and little

Today's picture comes to us with a little help from a little helper in the nursery I work in.
When I saw that one of the kiddos was wearing teeny-tiny uggs I gave out an "awww" I had to, for some reason tiny things are just soo much cuter than there normal sized counter parts...as you can tell my ugg boot is not nearly as cute because it looks gargantuan!!!
I love this picture; it reminds me to love on the little ones I look after, because they won't be small forever.
One day they will walk and talk. They will learn to spell and solve math problems. They will fall at recess, they will learn to ride bikes and even drive cars (that's a little scary!). They will have someone break there heart and they will learn that it isn't the end of the world. They will learn that there are those who would do them harm. And they will know more about technology than I could ever hope to know.
This is the natural order of things, this is how it always has been and always will be. And it is bitter-sweet.
Heres hoping you can find more sweet moments than bitter ones my little friends!

Love and tiny uggs,
Kaitlin

Project 365

Today I decided To start project 365, for anyone in redhead land who is not familiar with his project you simply take a picture everyday for a year. At the end of the year you have amazing pictures and hopefully will remember why you took a certain picture or what you were doing that day.

Ryan asked why I didn't start this in January as it is the beginning of the year, and to be honest I didn't know about it then and who says the year has to start in January? I think February 4 th is as good a time as any to start!!!
So here is the first picture, it may be hard to see, but I saw a bird in a tree in the parking lot for Village Inn and I thought he looked cute all puffed out, so thank you bird for being the inaugural picture of my project!!!

I hope you have a super Saturday!!!
Kaitlin:-)

Malfunctions...

Have you ever had one of those days where no matter what you are trying to accomplish it just isn't working out? Everything you touch seems to break, malfunction, or just isn't cooperating...Well today for me it seems that the items that are malfunctioning are my fingers and my brain!!!
Even now as I try to type this post, my fingers seem to be moving with a mind of there own! If you have ever been there then you know how infuriating it is to want your body to do one thing and have it do something COMPLETELY different!

I shouldn't complain about this thou, there are people all over this city, country and planet that have no use of there limbs at all. There are people who have diseases that take control of their bodies and everyday is a struggle for them.
I should be thankful that today is a day that I am healthy and strong...instead of complaining that I can't seem to make things go the way I want them to.

I hope that if you are having one of "those" days that you can find something, anything to be thankful for. It is amazing how much it can change your attitude to take a moment away from dwelling on what you don't have or what is going wrong and think about what is going right, or what you DO have.
Having a thankful heart helps to put your problems in perspective and gives you time to figure out how to fix them.

I feel soo much better now! :-)

The unwelcome house guest

Dear bat or bird that flew into my house via the chimney:

While I am flattered that you chose my house to visit, I am quite displeased that you simply invited yourself over. I completely understand wanting to make an entrance, however crashing thru the fireplace grate and scaring the pee-waddle out of me was bad form!

And after the spectacle you made you hid...perhaps my screaming in terror made you nervous, but dear friend you must understand my point of view: I was already snuggled in ready to work on a hat that I'm making and minding my own business!

Please kindly stay in the great outdoors where Mother Nature intended... Thank you!!!

Hello 2012

Well hello 2012, I didn't see you there! How did you creep up on me so quickly? Your arrival may have been rapid but I am certainty glad you are here! I'm so excited for the opportunities you hold, and the amazing adventures that are waiting for me! So let's get started and make this year the best one yet!!!
